Alana Spencer, a former The Apprentice contestant, has shuttered one of her cafés in Wales two years after it first opened.
Alana, 31, won the 12th season of the reality business show in 2016 and earned a £250,000 investment from Lord Alan Sugar for her premium cake and chocolate company, Ridiculously Rich by Alana.
She moved on to establish her first café in Aberystwyth in 2020, followed by a branch in Llandudno in 2021, taking over the shop near the Craig-y-Don paddling pool.
While the Ridiculously Rich cafe had been closed over the winter and there had previously been rumours that it was closing, Alana verified to North Wales Live this week that she had ‘unfortunately’ now closed her café for good.
The news outfit also contacted the Conwy council, which owns the property.
It stated that the contract had expired and that an agreement had been reached for another café to take over the licence.
‘We’re pleased to welcome our new tenants, and wish them a very busy and successful summer,’ the council told the publication.
Alana and Lord Sugar split ways three years after securing the investment when she returned all of his shares to become the single proprietor and director of her company.
Lord Sugar has invested in companies varying from ethical cosmetic centres to a swimwear and fashion brand and boxing clubs over the course of the show’s 17 seasons.
He also received a multi-million pound payout after selling his share in a skincare company managed by previous contestant Susan Ma, it was disclosed this week.
While the businesswoman initially failed to obtain Lord Sugar’s investment during the competition, he subsequently purchased a 50% stake in Tropic Skincare, which she started at the age of 15 in 2004.
He described the fast-growing company as “nothing short of remarkable” since his acquisition, with a turnover of more than £90 million and a pre-tax profit of £10.5 million in 2021.
The sale price was not revealed, but Lord Sugar appeared to be on track to earn a multimillion-pound profit as a consequence.
The Apprentice is streaming on BBC iPlayer.
