The Apprentice’s Victoria Goulbourne hit back at Lord Alan Sugar after he made disparaging remarks about her business prospects.
The former flight attendant nearly lost out on becoming the 76-year-old’s business partner and winning his £250,000 investment.
Victoria, who operates a sweet store, was dismissed by Lord Sugar after reaching the last hurdle with Dani Donovan, Marnie Swindells, Megan Hornby, and Rochelle Anthony.
Lord Sugar couldn’t help but make a remark as she was escorted out of the boardroom, telling her, ‘Frankly, I’m not keen on your proposal, I’m afraid.’
To the chagrin of viewers who called it “patronising” and “cold,” he added, “Keep it as a hobby.” No, it’s a fun pastime.’
On Thursday, Victoria returned to The Apprentice for the finale, when she finally got to dress down Lord Sugar.
Rochelle had chosen her as part of her team because she wanted the investment to develop her hair salon, which catered to all various types of hair and offered seminars.
Victoria’s hair was used in an advert for the salon during one of the tasks, with her telling Lord Sugar: ‘I decided to go into modelling after you told me my last business should be a hobby, so…’
The whole boardroom burst out laughing, with even Karren Brady straining not to laugh.
Lord Sugar smirked before commenting: ‘Um, good.’
Viewers of The Apprentice adored Victoria’s ownership of Lord Sugar, with one exclaiming, ‘Get him, Victoria.’
‘I’m glad Victoria got to say something about that awful “hobby” comment,’ a fan wrote, while another penned: ‘Yess Victoria, tell him.’
A fourth said: ‘Victoria with the line of the series,’ followed by two fire emojis and ‘#Savage.’
Marnie, a court advocate, won The Apprentice 2023 and will use the money to launch an inclusive, emotion-focused boxing facility idea.
Marnie said to Metro.co.uk that she didn’t believe she’d won until she received a phone call from Lord Sugar confirming the outcome.
‘Lord Sugar does let us know after who he decides to go with, so it was difficult and we were left in suspense for a little while. I really didn’t think that it was going my way,’ she said.
‘I remember that morning that we found out thinking, “Just put me out of my misery. I know I didn’t win.” Then he gave me the shock of my life and said I had, so I also had to process that and try and deal with that feeling that I’d had that I hadn’t, and then I had, and it was a lot.’
The Apprentice is available to stream on iPlayer.
