The concept of his character Nate heading a prospective spin-off didn’t sit well with Ted Lasso actor Nick Mohammed.
The 42-year-old actor stars as Nathan Shelley in the blockbuster Apple TV Plus comedy, which follows an American football coach, excellently portrayed by Jason Sudeikis, who is suddenly hired to manage a Premier League football side.
With the third (and presumed last) series of Intelligence now in production, the Intelligence actor expressed concern about what a resurrection might do to a show as successful as Ted Lasso.
When questioned about taking the stage in a remake, he told Metro.co.uk, ‘Big shoes to fill, aren’t they?
‘I worry about the nature of spin-offs, especially with a show that’s been so successful, but yeah let’s see where the story heads, we’ve got a lot more to see of Nate’
Coach Ted grew up in an unknown Kansas City suburb before moving to London, but what does Nick think about crossing the pond?
‘I could just go over to Kansas and do the equivalent show, that would be fun,’ he laughed.
The first season debuted on the streaming site in August 2020, at the height of the epidemic, and critics hailed the series for providing the perfect’serotonin boost’ during the trying time.
However, this didn’t stop Hannah Waddingham, who portrays Rebecca Welton on the hit programme, from explaining why UK audiences aren’t fans of the show.
‘I wonder sometimes if British audiences don’t watch it because they think it’s about football,’ she said on This Morning.
‘But it’s actually about very much the human condition that we find through comedy, all the ridiculous things about ourselves, with the backdrop of football.
‘A brilliant backdrop of football, but it’s about all of us supporting each other.’
Ted Lasso is available to stream on Apple TV Plus, with new episodes premiering every Wednesday.
