Susanna Reid has received a rush of sympathy for her stern attitude while interrogating a Tory MP.
On Thursday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, Minister for Policing Chris Philp appeared to address a variety of issues, including the government’s contentious Rwanda Bill.
After going over recent debates on the policy and the party’s goal of’stopping the boats,’ hosts Susanna and co-host Ben Shephard accused him of making a ‘pointed’ statement after discussing how his party now needs to gain support from the House of Lords, which will most likely be a difficult battle.
After Ben referenced the government’s drop in recent opinion polls, a debate then kicked off during which the MP said the Opposition had ‘no plan’ on ‘immigration, policy and the NHS’.
Susanna and Philp began to speak while raising their voices after declaring it was ‘not true’.
‘It is simply not true to say they have no plan,’ she said.
The lawmaker suddenly altered his tune, claiming they had ‘no fresh ideas’.
The couple then discussed whether Prime Minister Rishi Sunak was democratically chosen by the people, and a back-and-forth ensued.
Philp leaned back in his chair, displeased with the way things were going.
Those viewing at home expressed their opinions on what was happening.
‘Christ he’s drowning and Susanna Reid is holding his head under water,’ X user Chris posted on the social media platform.
‘There is a possibility here that this guy is going to lose his s*** live on #gmb and I’m here for it,’ Karen shared.
‘Ooooohhhh he is squirming!’ Norrie added.
Others praised her for ‘calling him out’ on certain topics and points and said the scrutiny was ‘deserved’.
Susanna was involved in another brawl on set the day before the heated conversation.
On Wednesday’s broadcast, Ed Balls kicked the host in the head when they were arguing airline etiquette, despite the fact that it was an accident.
Susanna learned firsthand about the perils of placing your feet up on the chairs when she and Ed dramatised the issue by sitting in airline seats on stage.
As she took her seat, Ed, seated behind her, swung his feet up and kicked her in the head.
After Susanna leaned down and clutched her head in her hands, Ed recognised what he had done and began to apologise profusely.
Despite the initial shock, the remainder of the event went off without a hitch.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 9am on ITV1.
