Susanna Reid has bashed Matt Hancock for dodging important questions during his appearances on Good Morning Britain after he revealed to his I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! campmates that politicians purposefully ‘pivot’.
During scenes that aired on the ITV reality show last week, the sitting MP shared details of the special technique used by members of the government to avoid giving specific answers during press conferences and interviews.
‘You have to give enough link to the question that it doesn’t look like you’re avoiding the question whilst pivoting,’ Hancock said before adding that a good pivot is ‘admirable’.
Fellow contestant Seann Walsh replied: ‘So can politicians literally watch an interview sometimes and see a pivot and be like, “good pivot”?’
After Hancock nodded, a shocked Seann told the Bush Telegraph: ‘I’ve never seen a politician talk about how they dodged the bullets. And he was there just going “look, this is how we do it”.’
On Monday’s episode of Good Morning Britain, Susanna and co-host Richard Madeley revealed to viewers that producers had gone back through Hancock’s interviews on the show to unearth moments where he might have performed the pivot.
A frustrated Reid said: ‘The point is, these are questions that are asked by us on behalf of the voters.
‘I know everybody knows that politicians decide not to answer questions but if he’s saying that’s a deliberate strategy that he claims is admirable…’
After clips from Hancock’s interviews aired, Reid added: ‘I’m not sure any other politicians watching him will be grateful.’
Luckily for any unhappy politicians annoyed by Hancock exposing their secret techniques, he could soon be eliminated from the jungle.
I’m A Celebrity is set to begin evictions this week and, as it stands, he is among the bookies’ favourite to go.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays at 6am on ITV.
