Bobby Brazier is not popular with one Strictly Come Dancing pro.
This series, the EastEnders star, 20, is teamed with Dianne Buswell, 34, and has definitely captivated the hearts of the audience, avoiding any terrible dance-offs thus far.
However, he has gotten a mixed bag of remarks and ratings from the judges, with veteran pro dancer Brendan Cole agreeing that Craig Revel Horwood’s critique, in particular, was ‘fair’.
Bobby and Dianne performed an American Smooth to 5 Seconds of Summer’s Ghost of You last weekend, with judge Anton Du Beke complimenting him on his “divine lifts.”
After Bobby’s dance, Anton claimed the performance was the ‘nicest thing you’d ever done, it was lovely’.
Fellow judge Craig, on the other hand, thought Bobby’s hands were a ‘let down’ throughout the dance, citing their lack of structure and ‘robotic’ appearance.
Agreeing with the show’s Mr Nasty, Brendan said: ‘I actually really liked Bobby’s number, but Craig’s feedback was fair.’
He added to Sky Bingo: ‘I think the number was really pretty. But his hands and arms do look ridiculous when he dances.
‘There’s not the attention to detail that he needs that perhaps other people are bringing.’
Brendan, 47, did say this was ‘probably the number I’ve liked the best from Bobby.’
‘I think the choreography was lovely and so was the theme, but if I was going to be critical, it did look a little bit like every other number he’s done.’
Brendan performed in the first 15 seasons of Strictly till his contract was not extended in January 2018.
After dancing off against Angela Rippon, Krishnan Guru-Murthy became the next celebrity eliminated, indicating that Bobby and Dianne’s dance was a popular with the audience.
While Bobby is fantastic at staying in character on the dance floor, he did have a tiny NSFW slip-up in a subsequent interview with Claudia Winkleman.
Following their performance, Bobby admitted: ‘I don’t know what the American Smooth is, but that was lovely.’
He went on to say that over the week of training, which began ‘horrifically’, he was even doing the moves in his sleep.
‘I woke up one morning doing this,’ Bobby said, gesturing to his arm movements in the dance.
‘I woke myself up doing that!’
‘And the week before, the person that I shared a bed with, I turned…’
As Bobby realised what he was saying, Dianne burst into laughter with Claudia jibing: ‘Who wants to pull on that string?’
‘We’re going to halt it there,’ Claudia joked.
Maybe just chat about the dance next time, Bobby, especially since suspicions about his relationship with Dianne continue to circulate.
Fans recently thought they saw Bobby lean in for a kiss at the finish of their intense and passionate Argentine dance.
Dianne was keen to set the record straight afterwards, though.
‘The thing I love so much about dancing is [it’s about] telling a story. We did the dance the correct way if that’s what’s being said,’ she said on Good Morning Britain.
Bobby also replied to reports that he sought to lock lips with his professional dance partner on social media with a simple two-word reply.
In response to an Instagram user who said, ‘Love Dianne, she’s a fantastic dancer and instructor, but it felt a bit uncomfortable for me to watch, the dance was impeccable, but didn’t like how intimate it looked,’ Dianne said, Bobby simply said, ‘Job done.’
Strictly Come Dancing airs Saturday and Sunday on BBC One and iPlayer.
