Strictly Come Dancing’s Oti Mabuse has landed a spot on the judging panel on ITV’s The Masked Dancer casting doubts on whether or not she’ll return to the BBC series.
The 30-year-old professional dancer, who took home the glitterball trophy twice in two years, was announced as Rita Ora’s replacement on the new Masked Singer spin-off due to air later this year.
The Masked Dancer is already a huge hit across the pond with judges Paula Abdul, Ken Jeong, Brian Austin Green and Ashley Tisdale deciphering which mystery celebrity is dancing behind a mask.
Oti has signed up to the UK edition in Rita’s place, who is said to be too tied up with The Voice Australia to participate in filming a third cycle.
But does Oti’s position on the programme mean she’ll have to quit Strictly?
Is Oti Mabuse leaving Strictly Come Dancing?
According to reports, Oti has yet to sign on for the upcoming series of Strictly.
Although Oti has been booked for The Masked Dancer, it appears there won’t be a clash in schedules with Strictly as the ITV show is set to air in the spring while Strictly kicks off in the autumn.
The Beeb is expected to confirm this year’s professional dancers in due course.
It was reported last month that ITV had secured the rights to The Masked Dancer following the success of its sister show The Masked Singer.
‘Everyone’s really excited about The Masked Dancer, it’s a huge success in the USA so producers can’t wait to bring it to the UK,’ a source said.
‘Like The Masked Singer it is brilliant fun with high production values and everyone is convinced it’ll be a hit this side of the pond.’
‘ITV struck the deal over the rights to the format at the start of this week and now the producers are compiling a team to start work on it,’ they added to The Sun.
