The Repair Shop’s Jay Blades could soon be returning to the Strictly Come Dancing ballroom after failing to rule out a comeback.
The 51-year-old furniture restorer and presenter was among the celebrities to compete in the Christmas special in December and scored 34 points for his Only Fools And Horses-inspired jive.
And it looks like Jay could soon be performing for judges Shirley Ballas, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke, and Craig Revel Horwood.
Jay was grilled by Zoe Ball on Tuesday’s episode of her BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show.
‘Would you sign up for the full series?’ she asked. ‘Maisie Smith did a Christmas Special and she got to the final Jay.’
‘I tell you what, it would be nice but the only thing is, there’s so much other filming that I’m looking to do so…,’ Jay replied. ‘The Repair Shop is kind of like full on. We film like six days a week so it’d be hard to fit it in.’
‘Okay, all right, but he’s not saying no, that wasn’t a no!’ Zoe pointed out.
‘I’m not saying no, yeah,’ Jay stressed.
Jay was beaten to the glitterball in the Strictly Christmas special 2021 by singer-songwriter Anne-Marie, who was partnered with Graziano Di Prima.
Broadcaster Adrian Chiles, television presenter Mel Giedroyc, newsreader Moira Stuart and First Dates star Fred Sirieix also starred.
Jay is set to return to television screens on Wednesday (January 26) with his one-off BBC Learning To Read At 51.
He recently told press that having ‘too much confidence and a lot of naivety’ meant he had not previously felt embarrassed about not being able to read properly.
‘Just telling people, “Yeah, I can’t read, read this for me”. And they’re just like, “What?”,’ he said.
‘People find it amazing that somebody can’t read. It’s like not everybody is a David Beckham, not everybody can kick the ball and get it in the back of the net. It just doesn’t work like that.
‘Some of us can’t do these things. It hasn’t impacted (my life) that much.’
Strictly Come Dancing is expected to return later this year to BBC One.
