Stranger Things creators Matt and Ross Duffer have reportedly been left fuming after a Monopoly game – complete with season 4 spoilers – found its way into the wrong hands weeks before new episodes.
The first part of season four is set to drop on Netflix on May 27, with fans buzzing to learn the fate of the gang after three years away from screens.
While there are still many questions to be answered, die-hard followers have found out supposed upcoming plot points, in quite the unexpected way.
In a Reddit thread, fans have been sharing what’s to come from spoilers obtained from a season four Monopoly spin-off board game.
Images of cards from the game, which spoil significant parts of what will happen in the darkest season yet, have been posted.
The thread claimed the Monopoly set was purchased at ‘a nationally recognized retailer’ before adding: ‘It was purchased fair and square by a consumer. Nobody stole it; nobody leaked a sample.’
Unsurprisingly, the news has reportedly left the show’s creators, the Duffer brothers, fuming, with the duo known for often keeping spoilers completely under wraps.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the pair had a ‘total meltdown’ over the blunder.
‘Lessons have been learned and, I expect, there will be more cohesion going into season five,’ a source told the publication.
While it’s not been confirmed where the buyers managed to get their hands on the Monopoly boards, there are purported copies of the season four version currently advertised on the online marketplace eBay.
The synopsis for season 4 reads: ‘It’s been six months since the Battle of Starcourt, which brought terror and destruction to Hawkins. Struggling with the aftermath, our group of friends are separated for the first time — and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier.
‘In this most vulnerable time, a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that, if solved, might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.’
Upon the announcement of a new season, the creators also confirmed season five would be the show’s last.
However, there have already been strong hints there may be a way in which the world of Stranger Things could continue elsewhere, with a sequel or spin-off in the future.
