Stranger Things star Gaten Matarazzo has acknowledged that his expectations for the impending fifth and final season are’messed up’.
The science fiction horror thriller, which premiered in 2016, follows the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana, as they are besieged by the Upside Down, a malevolent other reality.
Its youthful talents have become household names, including Noah Schnapp, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, and Sadie Sink.
Although the scripts have already been written and production is already underway, Gaten, 21, has revealed what he hopes to see in the final eight episodes.
During a discussion at Mega Con Orlando, Matarazzo was asked what adjustments he would make to the programme.
‘It might sound messed up, but we should kill more people,’ he told the fan, according to CBR, as reported by Deadline.
‘This show would be so much better if the stakes were much higher, like at any moment, any of these kids can kick it.
‘I feel like we’re all too safe.’
Despite the fact that fans have previously been traumatised by the deaths of Barb, Bob, Billy, Chrissy, and Eddie, the actor is not the first show star to request that characters die.
In 2022, Noah and Millie joked that showrunners the Duffer Brothers should’start murdering off people’ since the ensemble was ‘far too enormous.’
‘The Duffer brothers are two sensitive Sallies that don’t want to kill anyone off. We need to be Game of Thrones. We need to have the mindset of Game of Thrones,’ Millie told The Wrap.
The same year, Maya Hawke, who plays Robin Buckley, stated that she wants her character to have a ‘hero’s moment’ in the final season.
‘I would love to die and get my hero’s moment,’ she told Rolling Stone at the time.
‘I’d love to die with honour, as any actor would. But I love the way that the Duffer Brothers love their actors. The reason that they write so beautifully for me and for everyone else is because they fall in love with their actors and their characters, and they don’t want to kill them.
‘I think that’s a beautiful quality that they have, and I wouldn’t wish it away.’
Her sentiments were correct, with the Duffer’s later saying their setting was ‘not Westeros’.
‘The show becomes not Stranger Things anymore because you do have to treat it realistically, right?’ they added.
Stranger Things is streaming on Netflix.
