Grace Van Dien has disclosed that she has been declining acting offers in order to focus on her streaming business.
The Stranger Things actor stated that she made the decision after having unpleasant experiences on past productions.
That comes after Grace’s Stranger Things co-star Joseph Quinn denounced the ‘disgusting’ harassment she’d received from trolls, adding the internet can be a’very harsh place’.
The actress has 280,000 followers on Twitch and broadcasts under the nickname BlueFille.
Grace, 26, confessed to followers during a recent live why she’d been turning down acting roles.
According to Dexerto, she said she ‘hadn’t had the best experiences with some people she had to work for’, adding: ‘With streaming, I get to choose who I hang out with, who I talk to, etc.’
Grace reportedly revealed an event in which a producer on one of her earlier movies got the person he was intimately engaged with to ask Grace if she would participate in a threesome, prompting the actress to’rethink’ her career, according to the site.
In the last season of Stranger Things, Grace and Joseph portrayed Chrissy Cunningham and Eddie Munson, respectively. Speaking about the show earlier this month, Joseph highlighted the fact that trolls attacked Grace online with vile remarks.
On Saturday March 4, during a live Q&A at Showmasters’ London Comic Con, the 29-year-old actor was asked by a fan, ‘I just wanted to ask from the perspective of an actor and a friend and supporter of women, what your thoughts are on the harassment that Grace Van Dien’s received for playing your on-screen love interest?’
‘It’s so awful,’ he responded, revealing that he had spoken with her about the trolling behaviour that she had encountered.
‘I was talking to her about it. The internet is a very unforgiving place. It’s a place where people can show a lot of support, or where people can rally around hatred and misinformation,’ he added.
‘It’s reflective of where we are culturally, simply by association she was getting bashed,’ the A Silent Place: Day One star remarked. It’s revolting. ‘I don’t know what to say except that it stinks.’
Stranger Things fans were eager to express their gratitude to Joseph for stepping out in support of Grace.
