Stranger Things season 5 has now underway! Fans have totally lost it when a new cast photo announced the return of a beloved character.
The official Twitter account for the Netflix sci-fi series tweeted a cast photo, including Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, and Noah Schnapp, in preparation for the final season.
However, one cast member in particular piqued the interest of enthusiastic Stranger Things fans who have been waiting 18 months for filming to resume.
Sadie Sink, who initially played fan favourite Max Mayfield in season two, is now officially a part of season five, which means Max will return to Hawkins before the season finale.
Max died in the arms of Lucas (Caleb McLaughlin) after Vecna fractured several of her bones, putting her in a coma.
However, Eleven (Brown) used his superpowers to bring Max back to life, although in a coma, while Vecna continued to wreak devastation on Hawkins, Indiana.

While it is not the comeback that everyone was hoping for, with no evidence of Joseph Quinn returning his role as Eddie Munsen, fans were nevertheless overjoyed to learn that Max is expected to recover from her coma.
Commenting on Twitter, user Samuel said ‘Thank you! Sadie Sink! So we’ll have Max back! Love!’ while another, Dorothea, jokingly remarked, ‘I’m going to save you, Sadie Sink’.
Another Stranger Things fan keeping a tight check on the new shot was user Lyd, who enthusiastically saw that Sadie Sink was ‘there!’
Show creators the Duffer Brothers confirmed in an interview with Deadline that Max is currently ‘brain dead, blind, and all of her bones are broken’.
New photographs of Hawkins, Indiana were revealed online just after Christmas 2023, giving fans of the show their first look at the set for season 5.
The set, which is really being built in Atlanta, Georgia, did not appear to be fully completed in the photographs posted in December, but production is not scheduled to begin until May.
Max’s’return’ to action in Stranger Things comes only a few months after it was announced that contentious character Kali, or Eight, will return to the show.
Kali (Linnea Berthelsen), introduced in season two of the sci-fi drama, was built up to be a major character. However, her look was ridiculed, therefore she was shelved by makers in seasons three and four.
