A firefighter and grandfather has spoken out about how his flatulence affects his daily life, earning him the moniker Stinky Grandad.
Craig went on the Channel 4 docuseries Know Your Sh**t: Inside Our Guts on Tuesday to discuss his digestive difficulties.
The show, hosted by identical twins Alana and Lisa Macfarlane, presents case studies of people suffering from a variety of digestive issues.
The presenters then analyse the newest health studies and demolish myths and trial fads, while a team of medical specialists offers advise and solutions to get them on the path to improved health.
Craig stated on the show that he gets ‘a lot of wind during the night’ and goes to the toilet ‘about 10 times a day.’
‘My farts are pretty awful during the night sometimes,’ he continued. It’s very terrible. Uncomfortable.’
‘My partner will flick the quilt in the middle of the night and say, “Craig, you’ve done it again.” The window will be opened. Spraying sprays. The door open get the air through the rooms to get it clear.
‘It does affect my private life and my professional life as a firefighter. If we’re out and about as soon as I get back, I need to use a toilet.’
‘I need to also plan my shift work; make sure I’m not going to need a little toilet whilst I’m at operational incidents,’ Craig added.
Craig stated that he was ‘desperate’ to figure out ‘what’s wrong with his stomach,’ noting that he has tried everything from intolerance testing to eliminating dairy.
He also admitted that his grandson dubbed him “Stinky Grandad” because of his constant farting.
Craig altered his diet after undoing tests that came out normal and obtaining professional guidance.
Fortunately, it worked, and Craig now eats a mostly plant-based diet, which he claims makes him fart less and gives his farts a clean odour.
Know Your S**t: Inside Our Guts continues on Channel 4 on Tuesday at 9pm.
