Star Trek actor Michael Dorn, best known for playing Klingon Worf in the franchise, has disclosed the unintentional injury he got during a battle scene in Picard Season 3.
Throughout the third season of the Sir Patrick Stewart-led drama, viewers have enjoyed seeing some of their favourite characters from the TV series The Next Generation return and cross paths with new faces.
Worf was one of those returning icons, with Michael now holding the record for the most appearances by a regular cast member in the franchise.
During a recent interview with Metro.co.uk, the 70-year-old discussed the physical moments that Worf and her character, Raffi Musiker, share in the series with his Picard co-star Michelle Hurd, 56.
He said how he and the ‘lovely’ Michelle got along well after meeting for the first time during a stunt practise.
Because they were ‘both physical’ and enjoyed the ‘physical-ness’ of their characters, their combat sequences were difficult, but they were both up to the effort.
Michael did, however, recall accidentally cutting Michelle with his fake sword on one occasion.
The actor explained how originally, he was persuaded to carry on with the action, but he requested that they alter methods, stating: ‘I cut her once. I’m not going to do it again.’
‘Both of us are physical. I think that the producers didn’t realise what they had until they saw it on screen, and then they went: “Ooh, let’s write more,”’ he added about the action-packed sequences that they took part in together.
Michelle, on the other hand, admitted to being a ‘big admirer’ of Michael before they met, and that she was ‘giddy and geeking out’ and ‘trying to be cool’ when they were introduced.
‘What I love is that we really supported each other. whether it was fights, whether it was the scenes – true scene partners, true partners in crime. That’s rare sometimes in our industry, to be able to give someone, without ego… and it was glorious,’ she said.
‘I’m so humbled. I’m so honoured to be sharing this space and screen with him and the fact that this person is such a generous and kind… this man right here, generous and kind and ridiculously talented and stupidly funny. He’d just make me giggle.
‘It was just a gift. I still just absorb it. I just want to take it all in and learn and grow from it and be thankful and appreciative. It’s been a total gift.’
Michael commented on his ‘lovely little legacy’ as the Star Trek cast member with the most regular cast appearances, having initially portrayed Worf in 1987.
‘It is a nice little legacy to have. A very nice little legacy. I don’t think anybody has done that, except for some of the old shows that went on for 20 years and stuff like that. But in terms of Star Trek, it was a nice little legacy to have,’ he shared.
Picard is available to watch on Amazon Prime Video.
