Rylan Clark kicked out 2024 with a witty apology for stepping out of musical retirement and performing a duet with Rick Astley at the BBC’s New Year’s Eve party.
The TV host, 35, who rose to stardom on The X Factor in 2012, sang You Spin Me Round (Like a Record) by British pop band Dead or Alive with chart-topper Rick, 57.
Rick Astley Rocks New Year’s Eve was recorded in the legendary Camden Roundhouse in London and featured special guests like Rylan and Sharleen Spiteri in what was a bit of a banner year for Rick, who also played at Glastonbury.
Moments after Rick and BBC Radio 2 DJ Rylan’s song was aired after the new year had been rung in, Rylan took to X and posted: ‘It can’t get worse than me singing you into the new year. 2024 is on the up from here.’
‘Happy new year x,’ he added.
Fans, however, seemed to have no time for his humility, lavishing praise on This Morning star Rylan, who will be presenting a spicy new dating programme in 2024, for such an energetic performance.

‘That was awesome,’ replied Kelly Hiscock, while Charlie Agnew added: ‘Can’t get any better, my year has peaked and we’re only half an hour into day one.’
‘You were fabulous, loved the sparkly string vest, Happy New Year. You’ve been rickrolled and spun right round,’ joked Ellen Doolan.
‘Rylan you were bloody amazing. Stop putting yourself down as you have a great voice,’ insisted Fiona Brown. ‘I really enjoyed spending my new year’s eve with you and @rickastley.’
User @Joshlovesit87 agreed,’ tweeting alongside a whole host of emoji: ‘Rick Astley and Rylan singing “You Spin Me Round” was bloody fabulous.’

The praise for Rylan and Rick continued on Instagram, where the official BBC iPlayer account published a footage of their duet, complete with the ballet the couple slid into.
‘Let’s make this number one – this was mega last night,’ Rebecca Johnson-Honey enthused, while Becky Cassie responded: ‘Who knew we needed this in our lives. I loved it. Love Rylan.’
‘Who knew Rylan could sing like that!! Brilliant,’ added Jo Howel, alongside a smiley face.
Revellers withstood torrential rain in Newcastle and Liverpool to ring in 2024 in classic British style, while New Year’s Eve celebrations in Plymouth and throughout Devon and Cornwall were postponed due to gale force winds of up to 75mph.
