Ricky Gervais has outlined his plans to mark the 20th anniversary of his classic comedy The Office.
The comedian, who was recently forced to postpone his tour due to the pandemic, starred as cringe-worthy boss David Brent in the workplace-set series, which launched in 2001.
It ran for just two series and a two-part special before ending for good in 2003.
Ricky, 59, shared on Twitter that he might get pop stars on board to help him mark the occasion this year.
He said: ‘This year marks the 20th anniversary of David Brent hitting our screens.
‘I was thinking of getting real pop stars to cover some of his songs. Who should do which songs? Have a think.’
Ricky also starred in The Office spin-off film Life on the Road which followed David as he tried to make it as a rock star.
He directed his followers to a link to the Life on the Road album, a soundtrack released ahead of the film.
The Derek star worked with the likes of Chris Martin of Coldplay and Andy Burrows during the recording sessions.
Ricky recently vowed not to being The Office back as seeing David at 60 would be ‘just sad’.
‘I don’t think I’ll ever bring back the old favourites,’ he told The Sun.
‘People think they want more, but they don’t.
‘They just want the feeling they had when they saw it for the first time. David Brent at 60 is too sad.’
The Office, which also starred Martin Freeman and Mackenzie Crook, is widely considered a British comedy classic.
It also spawned an American version starring Steve Carrell, which ran for nine seasons.
In the meantime Ricky is working on his critically-acclaimed Netflix series After Life, recently finishing work on the script for season three.
