Richard Madeley has called for Katie Price to be recognised for her ‘services to motherhood’ after being blown away by her in her latest BBC documentary.
The former glamour model, 42, has been universally praised after her documentary titled Harvey and Me aired earlier this week.
It follows her relationship with Harvey, who has Prader-Willi syndrome, autism and issues with his sight, and explores their close bond, as well as the daily challenges she faces while caring for him.
Tuning in to the show, Richard said it was a testament to Katie and her role in her teenage son’s life, as he tweeted: ‘We just watched the Katie Price BBC2 doco.
‘That woman should be in the next New Year’s Honours list for services to motherhood. What a testament to the sheer unselfish power of maternal love. Utterly blown away by her.’
His tweet didn’t go unnoticed by Katie, who reached out to Richard to thank him for his support.
She responded: ‘Thanks so much for your support Richard glad you enjoyed the show.’
In the one-hour documentary, Katie is shown taking Harvey to a station to take photographs of passing trains, with one scene capturing the teenager imitating a train operator.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Network Rail had invited Harvey – once coronavirus lockdown restrictions have eased – to come to one of the company’s branches to make an official announcement on a train.
In light of the news, Katie expressed her joy over the invitation extended to her eldest child.
Learning disability charity Mencap shared a post on its Instagram Story congratulating Harvey, writing in the caption: ‘Incredible news! Harvey is going to be a train announcer for @networkrail.’
Katie reshared the post on her Instagram Story, evidently proud of her son. She didn’t add an additional caption to the post.
After Harvey and Me aired on TV, Katie thanked fans for the ‘incredible feedback’ they shared about the film.
‘I wanted to say thank you so much to @bbcone @Minnow_Films and the general public for all your support in the lead up to #HarveyandMe and the incredible feedback tonight,’ she wrote on Twitter.
‘This really has been such an amazing journey for Harvey and myself, and I want to continue the conversation surrounding the difficulties that parents of children with complex needs face, and help parents going through a similar situation.
‘Thank you all so much x.’
In response to the documentary, one viewer wrote: ‘What a fabulous mum and mentor Katie Price is, she’s done an amazing job with that young lad.’
Another remarked: ‘So much respect for your love and commitment for Harvey. What a fantastic mum. People are quick to judge but everyone should watch Harvey And Me and see how dedicated and loving she is xx.’
