Richard Madeley didn’t mince words when characterising Chris Rock as a “thoroughly nasty piece of work” during his conversation with him.
Chris has spoken out about being smacked on stage by Will Smith at the Oscars a year later in his new Netflix stand-up special, creating headlines while mocking the actor’s marriage with Jada Pinkett Smith.
On Monday’s Good Morning Britain, Richard and Susanna Reid discussed the resurfacing of the slapping incident, with the former expressing “little compassion” for the comic.
‘I’m not defending what happened to him, it’s wrong, completely wrong. But in 50 years in this game, he is rudest man I’ve ever had to interview, Chris Rock,’ the 66-year-old stated.
Susanna, 52, listened closely as her co-star recounted interviewing Chris with Ben Stiller for Madagascar, the 2005 animated film in which they both voiced roles.
‘I have to say, it stands out in my memory,’ the broadcaster said. ‘He was just consistently unbelievably rude. A thoroughly unpleasant piece of work.’
Richard then quipped, referring to Will slapping Chris last year: ‘I didn’t smack him though, I kept my hands to himself.’
Shortly after, the presenter detailed how the comic allegedly acted rudely rather than using vulgar words during their interview.
‘I think we need to hear the other side of the story,’ Susanna quipped, as Richard responded: ‘I’d love to do that. Bring him over! Keep my hands behind my back.’
During Chris’ Netflix show, people noticed an inaccuracy in King Richard Oscar winner Will’s roast.
Will portrayed a fish in the 2004 animated film Shark’s Tale, which the comic falsely believed he played a shark in.
Chris attacked the ‘entanglement’ that Will and Jada openly addressed with their marriage after Jada became romantically engaged with singer August Alsina in his stand-up act.
‘We all been cheated on. Everybody in here has been cheated on. None of us have ever been interviewed by the person that cheated on us on television,’ Chris said of the couple’s Red Table Talk about the issue.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
