Piers Morgan and Donald Trump have spat after the former US president referred to Morgan as “ratings-challenged.”
The critical remarks came ahead of the former Good Morning Britain host’s interview with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, 44, which will air in full on Thursday.
DeSantis is widely speculated to be The Apprentice star’s competitor for the Republican presidential candidature in the 2024 US election, and in a preview film for the TalkTV show, he dismissed Trump’s comments.
But, Trump, who has previously referred to the lawmaker as ‘Ron DeSanctimonious,’ railed over the interview on Wednesday and also took aim at Morgan.
On Truth, Trump wrote: ‘While I am fighting against Radical Left Lunatics, Persecutors, and unfair Prosecutors who want to destroy us all, Ron DeSanctimonious is not working for the people of Florida as he should be, he is too busy chatting with a Ratings Challenged TV Host from England, desperately trying to rescue his failing Campaign—But it’s my fault, I put him there!’
Morgan, 57, understandably reacted to Trump’s scorching strike, tweeting his thoughts and mentioning that he had previously interviewed the disgraced former president.
He wrote: ‘BREAKING: Another President Trump statement re my DeSantis interview, this time lambasting him for wasting time chatting with a “Ratings-Challenged TV host from England.”
‘That’s the same TV host from England who Trump’s been interviewed by over 40 times…’
Morgan most recently met with Trump in 2022, when the mogul stormed off, calling the broadcaster a “stupid.”
According to Broadcast, the dramatic sit-down got 400,000 viewers at its height.
TalkTV, on the other hand, has been experiencing declining ratings since its start in April of last year.
Piers Morgan: Uncensored had an all-time low of 10,000 viewers in May, compared to the 400,000 who saw his premiere broadcast with Trump.
Earlier that month, Tom Newton Dunn attracted just 3,600 viewers, according to The Guardian, with the show failing to register a single viewer for half of its broadcast on Tuesday, May 3.
Morgan has consistently stated that TV audiences don’t matter to him since his show is a “global show.”
Piers Morgan: Uncensored airs weekdays from 8pm on TalkTV.
