Piers Morgan is keeping up with Good Morning Britain following his exit last month and has publicly praised Dr Hilary Jones for exposing an ‘ill-informed halfwit’ pub landlord on today’s programme.
Rod Humphris, who runs The Raven in Bath, joined the ITV show this morning after kicking Sir Keir Starmer out of his pub during a heated row over lockdown restrictions on Monday.
Speaking to Sir Keir outside the pub, Mr Humpris took out a graph he’d printed out showing stats from the Office for National Statistics which showed the average age for a Covid victim was 82 years and three months.
He said that, because this is higher than the average age of death normally, questions needed to be asked about whether lockdowns were necessary.
Dr Hilary wasted no time in calling Mr Humpris out on his views, much to the delight of Piers, who tweeted: ‘Brilliant work by @DrHilaryJones, exposing that gobby publican for the callous ill-informed halfwit that he is.’
In the interview, Dr Hilary slammed: ‘I think you should stick to pulling pints rather than advising the government about policy on the biggest pandemic and public health issue for the last 100 years.
‘Look at the facts, India right now, 270,000 people a day are coming down with Covid-19, Brazil, 852,000 children under the age of nine died from Covid in the last six weeks and 518 of them were under one-years-old.’
He continued: ‘Babies are dying of Covid. Now, if we ignore a pandemic, if we say lockdown doesn’t work, how do you think it spreads in the first place? It’s person-to-person contact. If you look at all the countries who did lockdown earlier and wanted to stay in lockdown, had better health outcomes and better economies.
‘It’s very simple.’

Dr Hilary added: ‘You have to have lockdown in a pandemic that kills people and if you’re saying at 83 it doesn’t matter if you die, you’re saying that Prince Philip, the last 15 years of his life were meaningless and worthless.
‘We can’t allow that to happen. You can’t be that ageist.’
Responding to Dr Hilary’s comment’s Mr Humpris replied: ‘When we’ve gone into lockdown the infections have already been falling, so actually there is no established causal link. The causal link between lockdowns and lack of deaths and serious hospitalisations is just not there.’
Floored by Mr Humpris’s comments, Dr Hilary asked: ‘How do you think we got out of the first two peaks?’
More than 10 million people in the UK have now received their second dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, according to Government figures.
On Monday, the UK has recorded its lowest daily Covid-19 death toll in seven months after four people died with the virus.
Good Morning Britain airs weekdays from 6am on ITV.
