Peaky Blinders actor Alexander Siddig has described the ‘full on’ nature of set when working on the series, explaining that other members of the cast have a ‘pack mentality’ during filming.
Alexander, 55, portrayed artist Ruben Oliver in season three of the period crime drama, a romantic interest of Polly Gray (Helen McCrory), the matriarch of the Shelby family.
While looking back on his experience filming the programme from late 2015 to early 2016, the actor recalled it being an extremely intense environment.
‘It is not fun. It’s full on,’ he said. ‘There are people kicking off left, right and centre. The Peaky Blinders lot are a group of method actors.’
Alexander, who starred as Doran Martell, the Prince of Dorne in Game of Thrones, told NME that his co-stars could be quite ‘fierce’ during production.
‘You walk into a room and there’s a bunch of them sitting around a table all singing Peaky Blinders songs and you’re like, “Excuse me, wrong door”,’ he stated.
‘They have a pack mentality and they hang out together, they’re fierce.’
While the actor said he was ‘very much on the outside’, he added that his fellow actors on the show are ‘lovely lovely people obviously, but they’re in their characters’.
‘Normally you’re on a TV show or a movie and people aren’t in their characters. They’re just hanging around and milling about but no way, on this one that wasn’t happening,’ he said.
Alexander also expressed his hope that his character, Ruben, could return to the drama at some point in the future.
Last month, Paul Anderson, who plays Arthur Shelby on Peaky Blinders, provided fans with hope that season six could be on the way soon.
In a post shared on Instagram, which featured a cartoon drawing of his character, he wrote: ‘Season 6 #comingfknsoon. Thanking you all for the wait, it will be worth it.’
Seasons one to five of Peaky Blinders are available to watch on Netflix.
