The preview for the new season of the Great American Baking Show is here, and it’s just as hectic as it always is.
The US version of the popular UK show, the Great British Bake Off, will debut on the Roku Channel on May 5th, with Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith taking a new group of competitors through their tests.
Ellie Kemper and Zach Cherry are the presenters this season, but there’s a twist: the episodes were shot in the infamous tent in England, adding another dimension to the rivalry.
The judges, who included Jonathan Gottfried, Stacie Nakamoto, Karis Stucker, Sean Liu, Martin Sorge, Dyana O’Brien, Nirali Chauhan, Susa Simpson, and Sarah Chang, did not spare the bakers, putting them through a slew of technical, signature, and showstopper challenges.
Prue expressed her excitement at the start of the teaser, saying, “I’m rather hoping that these bakers will bring something new to the tent.” America truly is the world’s largest melting cauldron.’
She may have to spit out her remarks, however, because she found one contestant’s proposition difficult to stomach.
‘Tastes like concrete, darling,’ she criticized. ‘You’d break your teeth on that.’
She was also left baffled by Paul’s eyebrow-raising idea of a task, telling her fellow judge: ‘We have bakers in the tent and you’ve given them burgers.’
‘I expect the Americans will understand what a burgers is,’ he replied.
Of course, this didn’t go down too well with one baker, who then confessed: ‘I have never eaten a hamburger in my life.’
It wasn’t all bad in the tent, as Paul later added: ‘I’ve judged a couple of American baking competitions and I think this is by far and away the best group.’
The cook previously featured on the Great American Baking Show for three seasons before taking a break during the epidemic, but this will be the first time he will be accompanied by Prue for the US version.
After season 13 was greeted with censure from fans, GBBO is due to endure a “huge revamp” before returning to UK screens.
Loyal viewers complained that the show had “lost its identity” and that the duties had become too challenging for many.
An insider subsequently disclosed that the 14th season will go ‘back to fundamentals,’ but with a few twists.
While the ‘twists’ are unclear, there have already been adjustments, with host Matt Lucas stepping down and Alison Hammond taking his position.
All episodes of the Great American Baking Show will be available to stream on May 5 on the Roku Channel.
