The former butler and royal aide of Princess Diana, Paul Burrell, has found himself in the firing line after dubbing Prince Harry a ‘hypocrite’.
While Harry’s book isn’t set to be launched until next week, it was leaked on Thursday after going on sale in Spain early.
It features a number of stunning revelations, including the fact that he used cocaine as a teenager and killed 25 insurgents in Afghanistan, as well as details about his sex life, including the fact that he lost his virginity to an older lady in a field as a teenager.
One of the most shocking discoveries is that Prince William physically assaulted him in 2019 during a quarrel over his marriage to Meghan Markle.
While relations between the Royals were already tense, some are wondering if this is the final nail in the coffin, or if Harry will still be invited to his father’s coronation in May.
When asked about the leaked snippets on Lorraine on Friday, Paul said Harry would be welcomed, but he didn’t think he’d go.
‘How can he possibly be sat in a House of God in Westminster Abbey where his mother’s funeral was to watch his father be crowned king,’ he said.
‘It seems a little hypocritical to me when what he’s been doing recently is dismantle the monarchy, not build it.
‘I think it will be very difficult for Harry and Meghan to be part of the coronation.’
However, his remarks enraged many people, who claimed that Paul’s continuous mention of the royal family didn’t make him any better.
‘Paul Burrell the same man who pretty much gave every bit of detail about Diana’s life after she was killed is now attacking Harry for his book about HIS life. What a hypocrite,’ one person posted on Twitter.
‘Paul Burrell has the audacity to say Harry is airing his dirty laundry. Paul has vomited everything he knew about Diana since she died,’ another added.
Another said he was ‘milking his connection’ to Diana.
Later in the interview, Paul added that if Princess Diana was alive, he believed she ‘would not agree with him pulling the ground from underneath his brother’s feet’.
‘Dirty laundry being aired in public – what does it serve?’ he questioned.
‘[There are] a lot of hurt people- it has to stop. If this keeps going there will never be a reconciliation.’
Paul has previously chastised Harry, telling Lorraine last month that he was ‘exploiting’ Diana’s image.
Sharing photographs of Diana that ‘William does not want to be seen again on television,’ according to Paul, was bound to cause friction between the brothers.
The excerpt from the biography follows the publication of a teaser trailer from an ITV interview in which Harry stated that he wishes his father and brother were still alive.
The interview, which is set to be released on Sunday, will air two days before Spare is released worldwide.
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
