Paddy McGuinness said he couldn’t believe it when he saw the doctor who performed his ear surgery on a Panaroma special about dodgy surgeons.
The Top Gear star, who has recently split from ex Christine after 11 years of marriage, said he had felt there was ‘something not right’ with the procedure at the time.
The 48-year-old discusses going under the knife with Keith Lemon on Thursday’s Shopping with Keith Lemon, revealing he potentially dodged a big disaster.
Asked by the Celebrity Juice host if he would consider plastic surgery, Paddy replied: ‘I don’t begrudge anyone doing it but I think what could you have done as a man?’
Keith replied: ‘Your ears?’
Paddy explained: ‘Oh I’ve had them done. I used to have massive sticking out ears and I always had a problem with it.
‘The surgeon who did it, I thought, “There’s something not right with these,” and about two years later, Panorama’s on, doing an exposé on rogue surgeons – he’s on it!’
Paddy, along with Christine, with whom he shares twins Penelope and Leo, 9, and Felicity, 6, was nominated at this year’s NTA awards for their documentary about autism.
In the film, Christine learns about the future of her children, who all have autism, and their development, and her own condition, exploring how her autism showed itself in the form of an eating disorder during her school days.
The Real Housewives of Cheshire star speaks to experts and other children with autism, while she and Paddy dispel myths surrounding the condition.
Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway scooped the award, for which Katie Price, the late Tom Parker and Julia Bradbury had also been nominated.
Paddy and Christine announced they had parted ways in July and explained at the time they were still living together in the family home, with their ‘main focus’ on ‘ to continue loving and supporting our children.’
In a statement, they said: ‘This was not an easy decision to make but we’re moving forward as the best parents we can be for our three beautiful children.
‘We’ll always be a loving family, we still have a great relationship and still live happily in our family home together. We hope this now draws a line under anymore unwanted and unnecessary intrusion into our private life.’
Shopping with Keith Lemon concludes Thursday on ITV2 at 10pm.
