Chase Stokes of Outer Banks has stated that he was in the running to be in Stranger Things until he completely botched his audition.
The 30-year-old actor is presently starring in the massively popular Netflix series Stranger Things, which follows a group of youngsters on a treasure quest tied to the disappearance of one of their dads.
But, he has now revealed that he had the opportunity to feature in one of the streaming service’s hit TV programmes years ago, but turned it down.
‘I read for Steve Harrington,’ he explained.
‘I forgot all the lines and absolutely [f***ed] up the audition.
‘I drove eight hours from Atlanta back to Orlando regretting every moment of my life on that,’ he told Access Hollywood.
While he did have a part in the first season of the programme, it was one in which he didn’t say anything.
Chase featured as Reed in the sixth episode of Stranger Things in 2016.
He may be seen driving away from Jonathan Byers (Charlie Heaton) in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment after making a provocative remark about Nancy (Natalia Dyer).
‘I wish I could have at least said two words,’ he added.
Despite the fact that fan favourite Steve was played by Joe Keery, 30, Chase believes the Stranger Things producers, the Duffer Brothers, made the proper casting choice.
‘I’m super proud of [Joe]. I’ve talked to him a little bit throughout the years,’ Chase shared.
‘And I’m just thankful for the Duffer Brothers for giving me an opportunity to, like, do my job and start my career.’
He was hired by Netflix again four years later, this time in a big part, as John B Routledge in Outer Banks.
‘It’s a very full circle moment for me,’ he said.
Outer Banks, which also stars Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, and Jonathan Daviss, was renewed for a fourth season by Netflix earlier this month.
This week marks the release of the third season.
Outer Banks and Stranger Things are streaming on Netflix.
