Netflix’s brand new documentary Our Father has arrived, exposing the horrors of the twisted fertility doctor Dr Donald Cline.
The film explores the real-life story of the disgraced doctor, who fathered 94 children by artificially inseminating his sperm into his victims without their consent.
An at-home DNA test led biological daughter Jaboca Ballard, who was conceived using a sperm donor, to the discover that she was one of seven half-siblings – a number that defied best practices in fertility medicine.
As the group set out to learn more about their curious family tree, they soon discovered the sickening truth, and more siblings kept arriving.
Who is Dr Donald Cline?
Donald Cline was once described as the ‘best infertility doctor in Indianapolis’ and was famed across Indiana for being a first-rate fertility expert in the 1970s and 1980s.
Many hopeful parents flocked to Dr Cline’s surgery for fertility help conceiving.
However, in 2014 it was discovered through DNA home testing that the doctor used his own sperm to inseminate his patients.
At the time of writing, it has been revealed that he has fathered 94 children.
Where is he now?
Despite Cline’s disgusting actions, his fertility fraud is not classed as a crime under federal or state law in Indiana.
As a result, his victims and their children have struggled to find adequate legal justice.
Cline retired from practice in 2009.
In 2017, he was convicted on two counts for obstructing the police’s investigation into the matter and he was handed a one-year suspended prison sentence.
At the time of his sentencing, Cline apologised ‘for the pain my actions have caused’, although he didn’t specify how often he used his own sperm in procedures.
In 2018 the Medical Licensing Board of Indiana stripped him of his medical licence, meaning he is prohibited from applying to reinstate it in the future.
Our Father is available to stream on Netflix.
