Following his second cancer diagnosis, Only Fools and Horses star Patrick Murray expressed his thanks for his recent life-changing surgery.
The 66-year-old actor, best remembered for his role as wide-boy Mickey Pearce in the beloved sitcom, was diagnosed with lung cancer in July 2021 and underwent surgery to remove the tumour in October.
He was certified cancer-free in May 2022, but the TV celebrity just confessed he had another operation to remove half his liver and a tumour discovered last year.
In response to his most recent surgery, he expressed gratitude to his surgeon, Professor Nigel Heaton.
‘I had the same surgeon as George Best, Professor Nigel Heaton, and he was delighted with the outcome as the tumour wasn’t in a good place,’ he said.
‘So I’m eternally grateful to him.’
Only Fools and Horses’ popularity has endured throughout the years, producing a West End musical, a spin-off, and a prequel series.
And fans have been pleading for the cast to return for one more episode.
Speaking about a potential revival, Patrick added: ‘Mickey will probably have a little Mickey running around. If the quality of the script was there, I imagine the others would be up for it too.’
Following his lung cancer diagnosis last year, Patrick updated followers, saying he was ‘cured’ after having chemotherapy.
In a post shared on Twitter, the actor said: ‘Last Friday I saw my oncologist. She told me the lung cancer was cured and that the tumour in my liver was shrinking.’
He added at the time: ‘It’s not over yet, but as you can imagine I am over the moon with this latest news.’
Patrick was noted for his petty crime and peddling black market products in 20 episodes of Only Fools and Horses, which aired on BBC One for 22 years until 2003.
Murray went on to play in big screen blockbusters including The Firm and Curse of the Pink Panther after the renowned series ended, but he later abandoned acting and worked as a taxi driver in Kent. Due to health concerns, he was eventually forced to retire totally.
