A Wheel of Fortune player has become the latest game show competitor to leave viewers stunned with a very dubious response.
A vacation to Antigua was on the line in a recent episode of the long-running series, and all that stood between contestant Khushi and the prize was a single letter.
The problem in question was in the Food and Drink category, and after correctly guessing H at the end of the first word to leave only one letter to go, Khushi remained baffled.
While the correct answer was ‘Fresh Tropical Fruit,’ the letter S in fresh was the last one to be filled in.
Instead of solving the riddle, she spun the wheel and guessed one more letter.
After putting forward the letter G, it became evident that she had no idea what the sentence on the board was.
While game show competitors sometimes succumb to the pressures of the moment, audience members were so taken aback by what they heard that they let out an audible gasp when Khushi made her prediction.
‘I’ll go with a… G,’ she answered, stopping slightly to consider her response.
As she stated that, someone in the crowd screamed loudly, ‘what?’, wondering where she had gone so wrong.
Khushi realised her error when the audience sighed again seconds before the bell sounded, signifying that she had missed her moment.
Nevertheless, participant Juliana took advantage of the error and answered the challenge as quickly as she could.
Host Pat Sajak couldn’t avoid addressing the elephant in the room, and said: ‘You know when that happens and you’re sitting at home saying, “How in the world can that happen”, you know, sometimes it is a word that just doesn’t want to come into focus for you.’
Although Khushi was left red-faced, Juliana’s gain was not just $650, but also a trip to the Caribbean island.
Others watching from home, on the other hand, felt sorrow for what happened.
‘Well, I can tell you first hand that it’s much different when you’re actually on a game show under pressure vs. thinking comfortably on your couch,’ one person shared.
‘Poor Khushi. I’m pretty sure she was nervous and wasn’t thinking straight,’ another added.
Fortunately for her, her viral moment will most likely be forgotten as soon as the next humorous game show response comes around.
Wheel of Fortune airs on ABC in the United States.
