In a future Paramount Plus film, Michelle Yeoh will return to her beloved Captain Philippa Georgiou character from Star Trek.
As she “joins a secret division of Starfleet tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets and faces the sins of her past,” Emperor Philippa Georgiou is the subject of Star Trek: Section 31.
‘I’m beyond pleased to return to my ‘Star Trek’ family and to the character I’ve loved for so long,’ the Avatar: The Way of Water actress, 60, said in response to her thrilling return to blockbuster sci-fi.
‘Section 31 has been near and dear to my heart since I began the journey of playing Philippa all the way back when this new golden age of ‘Star Trek’ launched.’
She continued: ‘To see her finally get her moment is a dream come true in a year that’s shown me the incredible power of never giving up on your dreams. We can’t wait to share what’s in store for you, and until then: live long and prosper (unless Emperor Georgiou decrees otherwise)!’
Fans were ecstatic over the shocking news, with one delighted viewer exclaiming, “Mother has returned.”
One individual was “counting down” the days as another exclaimed, “OH MY GOD YES!!!!”
After Section 31 was first announced back in 2018, the fans weren’t entirely certain it would ever be released.
Showrunner for the Discovery network Alex Kurtzman provided an update on the spin-offs’ timeline in an interview with Deadline’s Crew Call podcast.
‘Michelle has shattered ceilings, broken boundaries, and astonished us with her grace and gravitas for decades,’ he said.
‘As a human, I adore her. As an actor, I revere her. Erika and Boey are remarkable, exciting writers who bring a fresh perspective to the world of Star Trek, and we’re all thrilled to explore the next wild chapter in the life of Captain Philippa Georgiou.’
Michelle just triumphed during this year’s Oscars, becoming the first Asian actress to win the award for her work in Everything Everywhere All At Once. Michelle outlasted Michelle Williams, Cate Blanchett, Andrea Riseborough, and Ana de Armas in a very competitive field.
Section 31 will start production will later this year and will air on Paramount Plus.
