Gregg Wallace has stated that his meat-heavy diet has shifted as a result of his ‘human flesh’ documentary.
Earlier this year, the 59-year-old MasterChef presenter headed the mockumentary The British Miracle Meat, in which he claimed a new meat replacement had been discovered to assist supply low-cost meals during the cost-of-living crisis – and it was created from human flesh.
While some people soon realised it was a satirical programme, others were upset, with hundreds of complaints hitting Ofcom.
But, a few months later, Gregg has stated if working on this project frightened him enough to consider eliminating all beef from his diet.
While explaining how his diet has grown noticeably more plant-based, he attributes it to his wife, Anne-Marie Sterpini’s, decisions.
‘No no, I am a very enthusiastic carnivore although I do like the idea of introducing more veg into my diet but never having a fillet steak? Or rabbit? No,’ he said at the Rose d’Or Awards, which were held in London on Monday night.
He continued: ‘My diet has only changed in recent times because my wife is turning more and more veggie.
‘So, it’s nothing to do with the programme, but there is a lot more veg coming into my diet indirectly through Mrs Wallace.’
He did, however, speculate on how any diet changes may influence his job on MasterChef, which he has been working on since 2005, if he goes any further.
‘I’m not sure what the bosses would say if I turned up saying I was now vegetarian, but I’m sure they would adapt it to help me out,’ he added.

Gregg’s documentary was nominated for a Comedy Entertainment award, but it lost to A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou.
Following the release of the documentary back in July, Gregg said he was ‘chuffed’ at the project being labelled ‘one of the best TV hoaxes in history’.
It occurred after he assured the mockumentary wasn’t too ‘farfetched’ and described the inspiration and research behind the show.
He told The Sun that while the show was ‘complete fantasy’ the team had wanted to ‘raise questions’ about the cost of living and our relationship with food, which was backed up by experts and science.
‘The programme makers consulted with experts to make sure what they were saying reflected what is actually happening and didn’t wander into the realms of science fiction.
‘Scientists in the US have already come up with the concept of a “grow your own” kit, where it would be possible to create a steak from cells scraped from the inside of your own cheek.
‘The creation of synthetic meats is an area of huge scientific research, with millions being invested in it. More and more “fake meat” products are filling our supermarket shelves every day. Advances such as this raise a load of fascinating moral questions.’
