Lupin has already become Netflix’s most successful French international hit ever weeks after its release. No wonder then, Part 2 is just around the corner.
The comical heist-thriller stars Amorr Sy as the titular crook, and is described as a ‘contemporary reading’ of the Gentleman Thief.
In 28 days of release, Lupin reached 70 million households which is only just short of the streaming giant’s colossal success, The Witcher.
So far, Lupin has comfortably sat in the top 10 Netflix charts across the globe, and peaked at number one in France, Brazil, Vietnam, Argentina, Germany, Italy, Spain, Poland, the Netherlands, the Philippines and Sweden.
‘As a teenager, Assane Diop’s life was turned upside down when his father died after being accused of a crime he didn’t commit,’ explains Netflix.
’25 years later, Assane will use “Arsène Lupin, Gentleman Burglar” as his inspiration to avenge his father.’
While Part 1 has been lapped up by fans, Part 2 is incoming as Netflix confirmed a 2021 release.
Also starring in the French blockbuster is Hervé Pierre (de la Comédie Française), Nicole Garcia (Who You Think I Am), Clotilde Hesme (Chocolat), Ludivine Sagnier (The New Pope), Antoine Gouy (Budapest), Shirine Boutella (Papicha) and Soufiane Guerrab (School Life) in Lupin. The show hails from the mind of Killing Eve‘s George Kay and François Uzan (Family Business).
