Season five picked up after Lucifer (Tom Ellis) set off from LA for Hell, leaving Chloe (Lauren German), Dan (Kevin Alejandro) and Ella (Aimee Garcia) all behind.
The first episode saw someone who looked exactly like Lucifer step in to save Chloe after she was attacked during a murder investigation – only it’s later revealed that it was in fact Lucifer’s twin, Michael, who was promptly swapped back for the real Lucifer who’d been in Hell the whole time.
After he’s admonished by Amenadiel, it was also revealed that Michael has been manipulating Lucifer the entire time – and he came to have an even greater hold on his life on earth as the series progressed.
As the detectives in LA attempt to discover the serial killer behind a series of gruesome murders, Lucifer was later sent into a frenzy as Chloe is kidnapped during the investigation.
