If Love Island and Gladiators had a child, we guess it would be Love Island Games, which premieres on November 1.
The Peacock spin-off adds an extreme element to spice up the drama, and it will be hosted by Maya Jama.
Instead of simply attempting to make love relationships and sunbathing, the candidates will also have to participate in physical events, with one pair getting $100,000 (a nice little pay increase from the UK’s regular £50,000 award) at the conclusion of the season.
The current clip provides us an idea of what will happen in Fiji, where Love Island competitors from all around the world will be housed together for the first time.
Curtis Pritchard, Megan Barton-Hanson, Jack Fowler, Georgia Steel, Liberty Poole, Mike Boateng, Eyal Booker, Toby Aromolaran, and Scott van-der-Sluis are our UK representatives. Maura Higgins, a social media presenter (who has a love past with Curtis), will also be joining them on the tropical island.
Alumni from the American, Australian, French, German, and Swedish versions will also be present.
Maya, 29, offers the trailer’s audio and warns us that there will be some “healthy competition” while they earn their “second chance at love.”
We get a first look at the activities, which will be played in teams and couples and will involve jousting, players in mermaid tails attempting to climb a seaweed slide, and others exploding gigantic balloons.
Some old favourites are returning as well (if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it) – competitors will be asked to rank each other in various categories, and the ‘two-faced’ choice looks to make a stir and indulge in a good old-fashioned game of snog, marry, pie.
As USA competitors Cely Vazquez and ex-Johnny Middlebrooks, as well as Australia’s champions Mitch Hibberd and Tina Provis, are reunited, the season will have an Ex on the Beach feel to it.
Not everyone is there for the same reason though, which causes tension. Liberty, 24, questioned the intentions of her fellow islanders: ‘Who’s thinking more about games? Who’s thinking more about connections?’
She’s certainly clear on what she’s after and stated ‘I’m here for love. I’m ready to find someone.’
One thing is for sure, the exciting franchise ‘full of twists and turns,’ is going to have plenty of tears, kissing, and stern words as the competition heats up. At one point Curtis, 27, seems to be told ‘Sneaking behind my back gives small d**k energy.’
‘It’s way more intense than I was expecting,’ noted Megan, 29. We can’t wait!
Love Island Games premieres on Wednesday November 1 on Peacock and will air on ITV at a later date.
