The ITV casting team look for singletons who have ‘interesting and engaging personalities’, but it’s thought that there’s nearly 100,000 applications each year.
However, an enquiry found in 2019 that only six of the 36 contestants on the show had actually applied to be on Love Island.
Around 24 were suggested by ITV’s head-hunting team, while another six were put forward by talent recruitment agencies.
Speaking to the BBC at the time, an ITV spokesperson said that ‘the production team continuously looks for people who would be right for Love Island in terms of being able to be in the villa and the personality that they are required to have.’
Former contestants Eve and Jess (2019) were scouted from Instagram, while Nas was spotted in a Youtube video.
Winner Amber Gill actually turned down producers the first time she was asked on social media, as she was in a relationship. After being messaged for a second time by ITV, the newly single Newcastle-native took them off on the offer.
Laura from the 2018 series said that the best way to get cast is to make an impressive video, claiming hers was the ‘best one’ the producers had ever seen.
She made a one-minute documentary about her life, featuring clips of workouts, meals, and trips with friends.
If you’re hoping to apply for series 7 of Love Island, you’re in luck.
Applications are currently open until Friday July 16 via the ITV Be on TV page – so start preparing your video now.
