AJ hinted that she regrets pursuing Hugo (Picture:ITV)
Love Island’s AJ Bunker has spoken after being dumped from the villa on Wednesday’s show, admitting that she ‘should have focused her efforts’ away from Hugo Hammond.
The 28-year-old left the show on Monday with Danny Bibby after being voted out by their fellow islanders.
It came after a dramatic few days for AJ, who got together with Danny in the villa on Tuesday – but only after Hugo turned her down and advised her to focus her attention elsewhere.
AJ had been upfront about her attraction to Hugo ever since the re-coupling following Sharon Gaffka’s exit. However, after leaving the villa, the hair extension technician admitted wishing she had looked elsewhere.
Speaking about trying to crack on with Hugo, she said: ‘Is he a bit of a slow burner, I’m happy to compromise, is it that I need to take the lead here, he needs more time, I was happy to do that.
‘But I think as time went on, he’s not giving me much back. I feel like maybe I should have put my efforts elsewhere, but you don’t know from the first chats. It was starting to make me feel like, is he a slow burner, or not interested?’

Discussing her experience in the villa, AJ said that trying to get to know the islanders after arriving as a bombshell was overwhelming at times.
‘I haven’t been on a date for over a year and half, so I’ve gone from not dating anyone and not talking to any men for ages to trying to deal with six conversations going on at once. So, it was a bit like, “Wow.”’
AJ was delivered a blow on Tuesday’s show after being approached by Hugo.
He said: ‘At the beginning there was just something I couldn’t quite put my finger on… At the minute I just think that we’re better off as friends as this point.
‘I genuinely think that you and Danny could have something really great.’
Speaking afterwards, AJ said: ‘The fact that Hugo was really pushing me to go with Danny clarifies that he really wasn’t feeling it with me. I’m a little bit shocked, but at the same time if he’d liked me he would have made a little bit more of an effort.’
Love Island continues at 9pm on ITV2.
