Line of Duty is smashing huge TV records (Picture: BBC)
The penultimate episode of Line of Duty series six has not only smashed the show’s own record, it’s immediately become the most watched television drama since 2008.
Jed Mercurio’s crime saga continues to pick up steam more and more each week, and the latest instalment attracted 10.9million viewers, according to BARB overnight figures supplied by overnghts.tv.
The colossal figure makes the episode the most watched drama since the 2008 Doctor Who Christmas Special, which was seen by 11.7million viewers.
In turn, Line of Duty trampled the impressive feat reached by Mercurio’s other BBC thriller Bodyguard, which reached an overnight peak of 10.4million viewers for the finale in 2018.
It also pipped the best ever performing episode by Downton Abbey when 10.6million fans tuned in for the series two finale.
What’s more, Line of Duty is expected to smash that figure again this coming Sunday with the series six finale when we discover who has made it through the season alive.
Jo Davidson was mercilessly interrogated by AC-12 in the latest Line of Duty (Picture: BBC)
Jo Davidson’s days look numbered after she was arrested and charged for conspiring to kill Kate Fleming and murdering Ryan Pilkington, with the OCG (Organised Crime Group) making her well aware she’s being watched even from behind bars.
However, an ominous line from Ted Hastings has viewers concerned he’ll be killed off Line of Duty this weekend.
Whatever the outcome, Gregory Piper, who wrote a goodbye letter to the show after his villain Ryan was killed off, promised the finale is a ‘corker’.
Line of Duty concludes Sunday at 9pm on BBC One.
