Kay Burley has received harsh criticism for being ‘bizarrely happy’ over a heartbreaking tragedy.
The 62-year-old Sky News anchor was getting ready to go live at 7 a.m., as she gave viewers a tour of the studio and ran through the day’s important themes.
Kay began strolling across the workplace with a coworker, conversing with members of the team.
‘What have you got to tell us about this morning?’ she asked her co-star, before sighing about the awful news of a 15-year-old girl being murdered.
Police arrested a teenage boy after the schoolgirl was stabbed to death on her way to school in South London on Wednesday morning.
While it made headlines today and was at the forefront of many news agendas, Kay quickly moved on with the other news items and interviewees, saying: ‘Right, okay, in addition to that, Richard Holden will be with us for the government this morning, Rachel Reeves’ sister, who is also an MP, will be here for Labour.’
The two then raved over the final news item, which was the addition of a Paddington bear to Chester Zoo.
Fans were disappointed with the video’s tone, which alternated between the tragedy and her brighter news agenda.
‘So. Very. Weird. And. So. Very. Inappropriate,’ one Twitter user said.
Another wrote: ‘I don’t exactly know how to put into words but the vibe of this video does not reflect the vibe of the words on the tweet.’
‘You seem very jovial considering the subject you will be discussing,’ someone else lashed out.
‘Do you think you could possibly show a little more tact in discussing your rundown on social media. I’m not sure a 15 year old being stabbed to death should necessarily be included in the same list as a bear at the zoo…’ someone else wrote.
Another described it as “tactless,” and numerous more questioned why it had not been removed.
‘This is shockingly poor taste,’ someone else said.
