Johnny Vegas is not pleased that his television show has been likened to Jeremy Clarkson’s.
Their names both begin with the letter J, and they both have reality programmes about their enterprises, but Johnny’s story ends there.
The television series Carry on Glamping follows Johnny as he attempts to build a thriving business in the luxury camping industry. Although his enterprise is the topic of a TV show, he says it is entirely real, something he does not feel is true of Clarkson’s Farm.
‘This isn’t just for a TV show; this is 100 percent an actual business,’ he insisted.
‘It really p****s me off when people say, “Ooh, it’s like Clarkson’s Farm”, because his show is a set-up, and you can see that from a mile off,’ Johnny, 53, told Times Radio.
‘That [comparison] really insults me – my team and I were doing 17-hour days to get the place ready, because it’s a real campsite with real customers, and we couldn’t let them down.’
There’s just one way to decide: go glamping or farm off. We’ll let you know once we figure out what it entails.
Johnny started his firm after a’midlife crisis’ and a drunken eBay purchase of a bus at 2am. We thought it was awful when we awoke to a £30 Domino’s order.
‘I named her Patricia, after my mum, who died not long after, so then it became a bit of a tribute to her,’ he explained.
His visitors may now stay in a range of antique automobiles across the Derbyshire countryside.
Jeremy Clarkson began operating his farm, Diddly Squat, in the Cotswolds, which he acquired in 2008.
However, he did not give any attention to securing the 1,000 acres of property.
‘I mean, the truth of the matter was that land almost never comes up for sale round here and 2008 was the big financial crash, and this came up for sale, and I just thought, “Nobody’s making more land, so it’s as well to buy it”,’ he explained to LadBible.
Amazon Prime cameras accompanied him on the expedition, which has become a resounding success – something even Jeremy, 63, did not expect.
‘I thought Clarkson’s Farm would serve up gentle disappointment to fans of The Grand Tour. They’d watch the first one, maybe the first three, and that would dwindle to nobody watching,’ he previously remarked.
It has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes rating, has made farmer Kaleb Cooper a star, and a third season is in the works!
Johnny Vegas: Carry on Glamping series two begins tomorrow at 9pm on Channel 4. Clarkson’s Farm is available to watch on Amazon Prime.
