Joe Exotic has said that the Netflix blockbuster Tiger King ‘definitely’ wrecked his life, despite catapulting him to worldwide celebrity.
The former zookeeper, 60, who is presently serving a 22-year jail sentence, appeared prominently in the 2020 documentary series, with Big Cat Rescue founder Carole Baskin, 61, and former business partner Jeff Lowe.
The documentary follows Exotic and his quarrel with Carole, which resulted to his conviction for murder-for-hire after it was proven that he paid a hitman to assassinate her.
Exotic expressed sorrow for his role with Tiger King when reflecting on his life from behind prison.
Speaking to TMZ, he said: ‘My biggest regret? Owning a zoo. Other than owning a zoo, it’s meeting Jeff Lowe. Carole Baskin was not a threat to me because I fought her in court. Jeff Lowe is just a corrupt bastard.’
When asked if he regretted appearing in Tiger King, Exotic replied, ‘First and foremost, I didn’t do Tiger King.
‘Did Tiger King ruin my life? Absolutely. I was filming just a little tiger film in 2016 and 2017 and then Netflix and Eric Goode and all of them turned this into this conspiracy to kill Carole Baskin to make a show.’
Exotic said that if he is out from prison, he plans to marry his fiancé Seth Posey. He also wants to accept an invitation to go on a month-long music tour.
The former zookeeper refused further treatment last month after physicians warned that his prostate cancer had spread to his bladder.
It has recently been revealed that he wishes to leave his whole inheritance to his other half, whom he met on the internet.
He also stated that he had a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) provision in his will in case of a medical emergency.
Tiger King is available to stream on Netflix.
