Janey Godley has promised to ‘go out with a bang’ as she updates her cancer treatment, describing how she would ‘had to keep fighting it’ for the rest of her life.
After previously been given the all-clear, the comedian revealed in December of last year that her cancer had returned.
The 61-year-old was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in November 2021 and underwent a thorough hysterectomy in January 2022.
Janey has stated her intention to continue with her live tour, dubbed the ‘Not Dead Yet Tour,’ as she prepares to play in Aberdeen, Glasgow, and London.
During an appearance on Lorraine on Tuesday, the Scottish comedian stated that she is feeling’surprisingly sprightly’ despite her chemotherapy treatment.
Explaining that her gigs were the last big tour she’d be able to do because of her cancer diagnosis, Janey said: ‘The thing about ovarian stage-three cancer is it’s not curable – it’s treatable, but it’s not curable.
‘It never goes away, it’s always there and it’s always gonna come back and I’m always gonna have to keep fighting it.’
The entertainer shared how this time, the cancer had appeared on her peritoneum, which she outlined is ‘the organ that holds all your bits in round your tummy’.
‘I’m gonna have to just deal with that,’ she added, describing the medical professionals who’ve looked after her in the Scottish NHS as ‘absolutely astounding’.
‘They’ve been there at every single point. They throw everything at it, and they are just wonderful,’ she stated.
‘They’ve saved my life so far, and who knows? People keep saying, “How long have you got?” Like I’m some sort of human advent calendar and I don’t have an answer for them.
‘I don’t know how long I’ve got, but like a mayfly, I’m gonna enjoy it while I can. And I’m gonna go on tour, and if I’m gonna go out, I’m gonna go out with a bang.’
Lorraine airs weekdays from 9am on ITV.
