Jake Quickenden has revealed the heartbreaking reason why he is taking part in The Full Monty on Ice.
Speaking to Lorraine Kelly on Monday’s show, the former X Factor star explained that he’s doing the charity show, which begins tonight, in memory of his dad and brother.
‘Of course, it’s for a very important cause and something that’s very close to your heart which is why you wanted to do it,’ Lorraine began.
‘For me, I have wanted to do it for years really,’ Jake replied.
‘I just think it’s such a vital time, especially at the moment as well with people not going to the hospital, getting checked for cancer.
‘To do something for cancer awareness was so important.’
‘I lost my dad and my brother to cancer so I know that it can affect everyone, so to be able to take part in the show with an amazing bunch of people, it was really something I wanted to do,’ he added.
The singer’s dad, Paul Quickenden, died in 2008, after battling non-familial bone cancer.
Jake’s brother Oliver was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in 2010 when he was only 16. He passed away in 2012 surrounded by his family.
Jake isn’t the only celeb baring all for the programme, the other men in the line-up include, rugby legend Gareth Thomas, Bob Champion, actor Jamie Lomas, Perri Kiely and Love Island’s Chris Hughes.
Representing the women are Dame Jenni Murray, Linda Lusardi, Shaughna Phillips, Hayley Hamaddon and This Morning’s Dr Zoe Williams.
Diversity star Ashley Banjo and Loose Women panellist Coleen Nolan will also be there, as they put the stars through their paces.
The charity show is held every year to raise awareness of cancer and the crucial importance of early self-checks to help save lives.
The BAFTA-nominated programme is now in its fourth year, but with fewer health checks taking place during lockdown for crucial early diagnosis, the message has never been more important.
Lorraine airs daily at 9am on ITV.
