The thrilling new series Red Eye on ITV has had viewers up all night binge-watching.
The six-part drama, starring Fool Me Once actor Richard Armitage as doctor Matthew Nolan, premiered on Sunday night on ITV1 and ITVX, and audiences can’t get enough of it.
The episode followed Matthew, who was suspected of murdering a lady in Beijing and was promptly sent back on the final aircraft of the day after arriving in London.
DC Hana Li, played by Jing Lusi, is there to keep him in check, although she initially prefers not to interact with him outside of the work.
It’s safe to say that fans couldn’t wait to see what happened, with many watching the entire series in one night.
X user @KetvelinaA wrote: ‘I didn’t sleep until two o’clock in the morning, but I watched until the most magnificent ending. Intense, exciting and captivating.
‘Thanks to @RCArmitage and all cast and crew of #RedEye for the pleasure. It was quite a flight! ’
‘#redeye ridiculous but still got me hooked,’ tweeted @kazzaaaaah, while @cheryl19899 agreed: ‘This #redeye is amazing. Obv I’ve gone straight to itvx to binge watch the whole series. Who needs sleep anyway #itvx’
And @seasylvia2005 added: ‘Richard Armitage who cares if the plot is ridiculous! #RedEye’
The first episode featured a remarkable scenario in which Matthew stands on a high surface in a crowded airport and begs the general people for assistance.
During filming, instead of employing only extras, many individuals were merely going about their business and had no idea it was for a fake television show.
Richard describes performing the scenario at Stansted airport as ‘hair-raising’, recalling the emotions of others around him as he yelled.
‘Some people were running into WH Smith going: “There’s a man being arrested”,’ Richard said.
‘I’d gone into a zone. You’re hyper-aware but also just focused on getting in, and getting out quickly. In a big packed room like that, getting out after they’ve yelled “cut” is my instinct. I had to go find somewhere to hide.’
Red Eye is available to stream on ITVX, with a new episode airing every Sunday at 9pm on ITV1.
