Following Big Brother’s blockbuster successful return, ITV appears to be planning the revival of another popular reality series from the 2000s.
The interior design series, which debuted in 2004, featured decorators and house renovation professionals striving to give people’s homes spectacular makeovers in less than an hour.
60 Minute Makeover lasted for ten years on ITV and aired over 600 episodes, with hosts including Claire Sweeney and Terri Dwyer.
After ending in late 2014, the series was briefly relaunched by the Quest Red channel for 20 additional episodes in 2018, with pop singer and reality personality Peter Andre taking over as primary host.
According to TV Zone, 60 episodes have been made for the upcoming reboot, which is expected to air in the usual daytime slot of the original series.
When the word spread on social media, it looked that the audience was eager for a 60 Minute Makeover comeback, signalling that the home renovation programme had left a void.
On X, user Courtney said, ‘I’m ready for B&M-core [aesthetics], beige homes, panelling and fake plants galore,’ while user Ryan begged for it to be broadcast live in a primetime slot.
Meanwhile, Bert said, ‘Oh my god, I was literally thinking about this show this morning! Claire Sweeney and her whistle are missed!’ as Charlotte recalled happy memories: ‘It’s 2006, suddenly I’m back at my grandparents’ house with my sister watching this during school holidays.’
Fans of the show are already hoping that Big Brother winner and This Morning host Josie Gibson would manage production on the next new season, taking over from Peter.
Sweeney presented the show from the outset until she departed in 2006 after recording over 100 episodes, with Dwyer taking up her job and continuing to present until her own departure two years later.
Linda Barker, one of the show’s primary designers, took over for a year in 2010, after which TV personality and property expert Catherine Gee took over in 2011 and 2012.
60 Minute Makeover frequently transformed people’s houses while they were unaware, with a close friend or relative typically selecting the lucky homeowner to receive the special ITV treatment.

Because of its success, the series was transmitted over the world, with episodes eventually appearing on four continents.
Episodes aired in Ireland, the Netherlands, and Spain in Europe, while the United States and China picked it for primetime broadcasts on international channels. Australia and New Zealand kept the series in the afternoon.
Ben Bryant, one of the show’s stars, was on life support for three days after a fire raced through his house in October last year.
Ben’s mum thanked his neighbours for rescuing him: ‘The investigating officer said if he had been found on the bed he wouldn’t be here today. And if his neighbours hadn’t rung the fire service when they did he wouldn’t be here.’
