Kate Garraway’s children are seen excitedly waiting for their dad Derek Draper to return from hospital after over a year in tonight’s ITV documentary Caring For Derek.
After footage emerged of Derek moving his arms to hug his son Billy for the first time since his body was ravaged by Covid, a new clip has been released showing him and sister Darcey anticipating his arrival home.
In the sneak preview, Billy, 12, and Darcey, 14, rush to the front door to greet their father, who is wheeled into the house in a wheelchair.
When asked whether he has any worries about his dad coming home, Billy answered: ‘I’m not really nervous or anything because I can finally complete the death star [Lego toy].’
‘I’ve been waiting to complete this until dad gets home,’ he added.
Derek, a former political adviser, first became seriously ill after contracting Covid in March 2020.
