Sam Thompson has said that there is one thing he wishes he had done during his time on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and it has a connection to his girlfriend Zara McDermott.
The Made in Chelsea actor, 31, was named King of the Jungle after defeating Tony Bellew and Nigel Farage in the final and describing the experience as “like a dream I didn’t want to be woken up from.”
While Strictly Come Dancing‘s Zara was not waiting on the bridge for him, Sam was greeted by his friend Pete Wicks, who hosted a party at his home.
He has since confessed that he wished he had included Zara and his family more while in the bush by utilising a secret code, like Marvin Humes did with wife Rochelle.
During the live evictions, the JLS singer fisted his heart every time Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly shouted his name, with Sam revealing: ‘Marvin informed me that he did it so his kids and Rochelle knew it was for them, and that he was OK.’
However, Sam didn’t have any hidden messages for his loved ones at home.
He added to The Mirror: ‘I was like “Oh sh** I haven’t come up with any.”‘
Fans were concerned by Zara’s absence at the I’m A Celebrity final, despite her uploading a beautiful video of the celebration at home.
The Love Island alum had previously shared her reasoning for remaining behind, saying: ‘Pete is going. We’ve had a few laughs and jokes about this.
‘But in all seriousness; Sam thought I was still going to be in Strictly (bless him, the optimism), so Pete cleared his whole diary for 2/3 weeks to be there.’
She added: ‘I also have had to rush back to work as soon as Strictly finished to finish two of my documentaries before Xmas which I am currently abroad filming now and we also have training for our final Strictly number.
‘So it was a bit impossible to clear everything but Sam was so excited by the idea of Pete being there anyway that he was happy for me to be waiting for him back at base.’
While she wasn’t in Australia to cheer him on, Zara did share their families’ joy when he was named champion.
He later said, of their reaction: ‘It made me cry, that’s all my nearest and dearest. I’ve never had that amount of people need to support me for anything and it’s just such an amazing feeling.
‘It’s actually quite overwhelming. I’m a very, very, very, very lucky person to have that around me so I can’t wait – I owe a lot of people a lot of dinners.’
I’m A Celebrity is available to watch on ITVX.
