Fool Me Once has been a smash on Netflix, and if you’ve already completed it, there are lots more terrific thrillers to uncover.
There isn’t often a much to do in January due to our depleting bank accounts and their Christmas hangovers – unless you’re a celebrity who jets off to an exotic place. This is why we’ve all been extra glad for the presence of Fool Me Once.A number of us have even attempted to cancel the limited plans we do have, namely work, in order to watch the series and figure out what is going on.
Harlan Coben’s engrossing thriller opens with the gruesome death of ex-Army Officer Maya’s (Michelle Keegan) husband Joe (Richard Armitage).
The inquiry is thrown off track, however, when Joe inexplicably appears alive on Maya’s nanny camera, holding their kid, revealing a network of terrible secrets.
If you finished the eight episodes in less than six days, congrats on your dedication to Netflix; you’re probably wondering what you’ll do with your nights now.
Try one of these similarly outstanding thriller series instead of looking at a blank wall after The Traitors…
The Stranger
Coben signed a deal with Netflix, which means that 14 of his novels will be developed into original series. So far we’ve had eight of those dropped onto the platform, which can easily be found if you search the novelist’s name.
If you’re a Coben newbie then we suggest making The Stranger your second watch.
This time fan-favourite Richard plays Adam who is told a secret by a, you guessed it – a stranger, and soon his wife goes missing. It’s addictively tense as lives begin to unravel and unexpected connections appear.
Netflix
Stay Close
Richard definitely enjoys Coben’s writing and takes on another complex role in Stay Close.
Megan (Cush Jumbo) appears to have the perfect life, with a beautiful home and a loving family, but she is hiding secrets from her past. Lorraine (Sarah Parish), the proprietor of a nightclub, follows her down to notify her that a detective is looking into the mysterious disappearance of her husband and father, Stewart Green. If you’re wondering where Richard fits into this, he’s a dissatisfied paparazzo who previously dated Megan.
The revelation that Megan was once an exotic dancer at a club is a touch theatrical, but the plot is full of twists that make that component tolerable.
Netflix
Safe
For a reason, an apparently ordinary person with an ordinary life finding a web of secrets is a thriller classic.
At the outset of Safe, we meet Tom (Michael C. Hall), a widower father of two. When his teenage daughter goes away, he learns a lot of things he didn’t know about.
In addition to the Coben titles, there is Gone for Good, The Innocent, Hold Tight, and The Woods. Have a good time!
While you wait for the other six to join Netflix, you may start making your way through this list…

They aren’t the only ones in the cul-de-sac with secrets!

Pieces of Her
Toni Collette plays Laura in the series based on Karin Slaughter’s novel. When Andy [Bella Heathcote] is caught in the middle of a restaurant shooting, she is safeguarded by her mother Laura, who easily disposes of the threat.
This naturally makes her wonder who her mother is and where she learned such talents.
Netflix
Wilderness
Liv (Jenna Coleman) decides to exact the ultimate retribution on an American road trip after finding her husband Will (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) is having an affair.
Planning a murder, especially when there is still love in the marriage, is not an easy task. Things go horribly wrong, and the ramifications of their actions get increasingly difficult with each episode.
The Watcher
The drama revolves around married couple Dean (Bobby Cannavale) and Nora Brannock (Naomi Watts), who get threatening letters from a scary stalker known as The Watcher after moving into their dream house.
The drama was produced by Ryan Murphy of Glee and stars Jennifer Coolidge as a real estate agent; however, what makes the series even more disturbing is that it is based on genuine events.
Not everyone was pleased with the finale, so if you start the series, be prepared to be disappointed. It’s been a rough trip to get there, which makes it all worthwhile in our perspective.
Netflix
Shelter
To round up our list, we have another contribution from the man himself – Coben. Mickey (Jaden Michael) is in a vehicle accident with his father Brad (Kristoffer Polaha), but after relocating to a new town, he encounters an elderly woman who informs him that his father is still alive.
When his classmate and prospective love interest Ashley (Samantha Bugliaro) goes missing, he works with his new school mates to unravel the mystery.
Shelter features several comic moments that give welcome reprieve from the sadness, despite its title.
