Ahead of the launch of GB News, this is everything you need to know about chairman Andrew Neil.
GB News – the UK’s first new news channel in 30 years – is set to launch tonight, with journalists including former BBC newsreader Simon McCoy, former ITV presenter Alastair Stewart, presenter Kirsty Gallacher and The Apprentice’s Michelle Dewberry.
It has been described as the biggest TV channel to launch in the UK since Sky News was first established three decades ago.
Who is Andrew Neil?
Andrew is a Scottish journalist and broadcaster. Rupert Murdoch appointed Andrew as editor of The Sunday Times, which is a job he held from 1983 to 1994.
He then went on to work for the BBC for 25 years, fronting shows such as Sunday Politics and This Week on BBC One and Daily Politics, Politics Live, and The Andrew Neil Show on BBC Two.
The Andrew Neil Show was eventually axed as the BBC made cuts to the corporation’s news organisation.
The political discussion programme, fronted by Andrew, launched back in September 2019 and aired every Wednesday.
He later announced that he would be leaving the BBC after more than two decades of live political programmes for the broadcaster.
Now Andrew is the chairman of the UK’s new channel GB News. The 24-hour news channel is set to rival the likes of Sky News and BBC News, and plans to air a staggering 6,500 hours of television a year.
How old is Andrew Neil?
Andrew was born on May 21, 1949 and is a Scottish journalist and broadcaster.
He is 71 years old.
What is Andrew Neil’s net worth?
Andrew made more than £550,000 in 2016, according to BBC figures. Glenburn Enterprises, his company, had a revenue of £7.27 million ($9.45 million) in 2015.
He claimed on Twitter at the time that non-BBC work accounted for 75% of his professional portfolio.

Who is Andrew Neil’s wife?
Susan Nilsson is a Swedish Engineer, Environmental consultant and Director of Communications.
The pair married in 2015 in the South of France. Susan is 22 years younger than her husband.
Why did Andrew Neil quit the BBC?
The Andrew Neil Show was axed by the BBC as it made cuts to the corporation’s news organisation.
The presenter, 71, shared the news on Twitter, telling his followers: ‘Important thread (for me!): With heavy heart I announce I will be leaving the BBC.
‘Despite sterling efforts by new DG to come up with other programming opportunities, it could not quite repair damage done when Andrew Neil Show cancelled early summer + Politics Live taken off air.’
He added that the split was amicable: ‘But I leave with no animosity or desire to settle scores. I look back on my 25 years doing live political programmes for the BBC with affection. And gratitude for brilliant colleagues at Millbank, who always made sure I went into the studio fully briefed and equipped for the fray.
‘They were/are the best of the best. If they can make me look good, they can make anybody look good.
‘There could have been a different outcome but for reasons too dull to adumbrate, we’ll leave it there. I wish the BBC and the new DG well. The BBC will always be special to me.’
GB News launches at 8pm on June 13.
