The Mandalorian season 3 premiere date is quickly approaching, which means our favourite Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu – called Baby Yoda – will be returning to our screens.
We’ve been missing them since the second season of the Star Wars spin-off programme premiered on Disney Plus in 2020… And, of course, the TV series The Book of Boba Fett filled in the gaps for their tale, resulting in their long-awaited reunion.
We’ve got you covered if you need a refresher on what happened when Mando and the Child were separated before their grand reunion.
Here’s what happened when they were last seen together in The Mandalorian, and what happened when The Book of Boba Fett brought fans up on their narrative.
Where did we last see Grogu and The Mandalorian in season 2?
Din Djarin resumed his endeavour to locate a Jedi who could take Grogu and instruct him in the ways of the Force in the second season of The Mandalorian.
Din sought for someone else to fill the role of mentor after meeting Jedi Master Ahsoka Tano (Rosario Dawson), who declared she couldn’t do it.
One of the most iconic moments in Star Wars history occurred in the last seconds of the season, when the one and only Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) appeared to not only save the day, but also guide Grogu on the next part of his adventure.
Din took off his helmet in front of the Child for the first time so they could say their final goodbyes, his face filled with anguish at the prospect of never seeing his surrogate son again.
When the doors closed on Luke, Grogu, and the Jedi Master’s robot R2-D2, the screen went black, signalling the end of the season and raising the issue of whether Din and the Child would ever meet again.
What happened to Grogu in The Book of Boba Fett?
While audiences anticipated to have to wait until the third season of The Mandalorian to see Mando and Grogu reunited, that moment arrived sooner than expected.
Din travelled to the planet where Luke was teaching Grogu in order to present a gift to the foundling in the first season of The Book of Boba Fett.
At first, it looked like the Mandalorian would only view the Child from afar, with no chance of a true reconciliation.
When Luke gave Grogu the option of becoming a Jedi or a Madalorian, he picked the latter, and the internet’s favourite father-and-son combo was reunited once more.
How did Grogu and The Mandalorian get back together for season 3?
Given the events of The Book of Boba Fett, it’s presumed that Mando and Grogu will be back together at the start of The Mandalorian season three, unless the third installment opens with a flashback sequence before their reunion.
The teaser for the upcoming episodes shows them together, while the summary of the new season reads: ‘The travels of the Mandalorian through the Star Wars galaxy continue.
‘Din Djarin, formerly a lone bounty hunter, has reunited with Grogu. Meanwhile, the New Republic is struggling to steer the galaxy away from its terrible past.
As he and Grogu continue their quest, the Mandalorian will meet old friends and create new adversaries.’
To summarise, expect plenty of comforting Din and Grogu entertainment in the near future!
The Mandalorian season 3 launches on Wednesday March 1 on Disney Plus, with new episodes released on Wednesdays.
