Warning: spoilers ahead for House of the Dragon season 1.
House of the Dragon fans may have hoped for another 10-episode arc in season 2, but it looks that it may be even shorter.
The second season of the Game of Thrones prequel will only have eight episodes, but there is supposed to be a solid reason for this.
The season one finale ended on a dramatic cliffhanger, with Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) learning that one of her children had been slain – although accidently – by Alicent Hightower’s (Olivia Cooke) own son.
War flared in her eyes as she turned to face the camera, before the screen went dark, leaving viewers wondering how the royal family’s civil war will continue to unravel and disintegrate.
According to Deadline, an HBO representative confirmed that the second season will only include eight episodes… While this may appear to be a sad announcement for fans, it may imply that there will be more seasons overall as a consequence.
According to the spokesman, the decision to cut two episodes from season two was “story-driven.”
With the second season set to premiere in the summer of 2024, the newspaper claims that HBO is exploring a third season.
According to reports, work has already begun on determining the direction of a third season, which might include scenes previously intended for the second.
As a result of sequences allegedly being relocated to future episodes, insiders have suggested that the programme may continue for four seasons, however this has yet to be determined.
It was recently reported that George RR Martin, the author of the books that inspired Game of Thrones and its various spin-offs, had a particular beef with the original series.
This was reported to be corrected for House of the Dragon, which takes place over two centuries earlier.
He confessed that the dragons in Game of Thrones were “all the same,” but the dragons in House of the Dragon “had personality.”
‘They came alive. It came as great satisfaction to me,’ he said, according to Deadline.
House of the Dragon is available to watch on Sky and NOW.
