Fans of House of the Dragon, get ready for season 2 to launch.
The second season of the popular Game of Thrones prequel series is now in production, according to a recent update from HBO, and returning cast members include Emma D’Arcy, Matt Smith, and Olivia Cooke.
The entertainment corporation did not just give fans that reward, though; it also gave them a sneak peek at some of the impending new episodes.
The terrifying Iron Throne in the Great Hall at King’s Landing, a regal seat fashioned entirely of brutally sharp swords, was revealed in a behind-the-scenes image.
In order to continue to protect themselves during the Covid-19 outbreak, the crew workers in the picture were all hard at work on the set while wearing protective facemasks.
The first picture HBO picked to reveal the news is obviously foreboding given that House of the Dragon is focused on several Targaryen clan factions fighting for the Iron Throne to govern the Seven Kingdoms.
Even though there will be a long wait before season two premieres on Sky and NOW in the UK, many fans were unable to contain their enthusiasm over it.
‘Can’t wait for my baby Rhaenyra to burn down all of King’s Landing,’ one person tweeted, backing Emma’s Rhaenyra in the civil war brewing within House Targaryen.
‘I prayed for times like this,’ someone else remarked, while another wrote: ‘LET’S GOOOO!!’
Others, however, have recently expressed their disappointment that Milly Alcock, who portrayed Rhaenyra Targaryen’s younger self, won’t be making a comeback.
‘When season 2 premieres and #she isn’t there 😕,’ one fan of the 23-year-old actor said, sharing a gif of her in character as the princess-turned-queen.
It looked to be established in September of last year that neither Milly nor Emily Carey, who portrayed the younger Alicent Hightower in Olivia, would be returning for the second season.
Co-creator Ryan Condal said in an interview with Variety that he seemed to leave the door open for prospective comebacks.
Saying that the younger Rhaenyra and Alicent ‘are not a part of the story that we’re telling yet’, he added that House of the Dragon could be ‘a little bit more fancy’ in comparison to Game of Thrones when it came to potential flashbacks.
‘There are things that we haven’t fully sorted out. I’m not closing the door on anything. So there, how’s that for an answer?’ he added.
House of the Dragon is available to watch on Sky and NOW.
